Methodology and confidence tiers

The Ark standard

Every entry traces to one of three primary-source types: a named document in a named archive, a named eyewitness (broadcast credit, affidavit, published interview), or a physical object still visible today at a documented location. Tests that cannot meet one of these are not listed.

The four tiers

  • Verified. Named lab, named analyst, methodology disclosed, result published or broadcast with primary documentation, sample retained if available.
  • Reported. Result publicly stated on broadcast or in print but methodology incompletely disclosed. Typical for TV-era tests.
  • Contested. Test was conducted and reported but the result has been challenged by counter-analysis, chain-of-custody dispute, or qualified expert critique.
  • Unverifiable. Never replicated, chain of custody broken, result retracted, or primary documentation missing.
