Recorded 1897 by Oak Island Treasure Company, 80 to 95 ft
Dug to blow the flood tunnel shut. In 1897 the Oak Island Treasure Company, unable to pump the Money Pit dry, drilled five holes 15 ft apart and 80 to 95 ft deep on a line about 50 ft inland from the high water mark at Smith's Cove, crossing the supposed course of the flood tunnel at right angles, and loaded them with dynamite to wreck the tunnel and cut off the sea. Only the third hole struck water, which rose and fell with the tide; charged with 160 lb of dynamite it set the water boiling in both the Money Pit and the Cave-in Pit, proof that hole, pit and cove were connected. The flow was not stopped. The line is placed here from those distances; no plan survives.
The record gives points, not the course between them.
80 to 95 ft, as reported by the source.
