Found by the Truro Syndicate in 1850 under an artificial beach: a 145 ft bed of coconut fibre and eelgrass over loose beach stones, and beneath it five box drains of stone, their mouths spread along the low tide line and converging like the fingers of a hand toward the shore, sloping down to about 5 ft below the beach. The fan drawn here follows Dunfield's 1965 sketch as reproduced on Les MacPhie's plan; the drains themselves were torn up by Dunfield's bulldozers in 1965.
