About This Coin

A coin recovered by metal detection expert Gary Drayton on Lot 6, one of the properties once owned by Samuel Ball, during Season 4. The coin was described as appearing to be over 200 years old. No further identification, cleaning, or expert analysis was documented in the episode.

Ball, a formerly enslaved South Carolinian who settled on Oak Island in 1786, accumulated nine four-acre lots on the island and became one of the wealthiest men in the area by his death in 1845. Coins, buttons, and military artifacts have been recovered from multiple Ball properties, supporting theories that he discovered and profited from items buried on the island before his arrival.
