About This Artifact
Silver-plated button bearing a distinctive starburst design with a hand-crafted shank. Gary Drayton recovered it on the eastern shore at Isaac's Point, near Smith's Cove, during Season 7. Doug Crowell examined it under magnification, finding hand-cut striations and a stamped rather than moulded design.
Maltese military-artifact specialist Denis Darmanin later identified the pattern as probably Spanish and dated the button to 1650 to 1675, noting the type was fashionable among the aristocratic class and matching it to a Knight of Malta uniform button.
