About This Artifact
A large flat stone with a beveled edge and a drilled hole in its surface, uncovered on Lot 15 during Season 8 by archaeologists Laird Niven, Aaron Taylor, and David MacInnes while excavating the site's stone walls. Surveyor Steve Guptill examined the find and suggested it resembled an old survey marker, possibly connected to other drilled stones documented elsewhere on the island. MacInnes concluded the flat stone had been placed before the adjacent walls were built.
In Season 11, author and Freemason Christopher Morford incorporated the stone into his analysis of Nolan's Cross, tracing a sightline from Cone C through Cone A and along a series of drilled marker stones. Guptill confirmed this stone's position within that alignment, and calculated that the drilled stones in the series sit at exactly half the distance to the Money Pit, with the line terminating on the tunnel discovered beneath the Garden Shaft.
