About This Artifact
A large granite boulder on Lot 2 with an iron spike completely embedded in its surface, several drilled holes of uniform diameter visible once the moss was cleared, and what appears to be a carved triangle on the stone's face. Metal detection expert Gary Drayton made the find in Season 6, working with Rick Lagina and Jack Begley. The team identified the feature as resembling a ringbolt of the type used to thread chains for hauling heavy cargo, and noted the carved triangle could be a Mason's mark. Archaeologist Laird Niven determined the site required formal archaeological evaluation before any further excavation could proceed.
