About This Artifact

Part of a large iron barrel hoop recovered by Ronnie MacKenzie and Bert Marceau during reconstruction of the Garden Shaft. The team noted this was the first hoop recovered despite having previously found barrel staves, and sent the piece to Carmen Legge for examination. The Garden Shaft dates to as early as 1735 based on wood samples, and water and wood from the shaft have tested positive for gold.
