About This Artifact

Small handwrought iron hinge found at the wash table by Jack Begley and Steve Guptill during the 8-A excavation. Archaeologist Laird Niven identified it as non-mining-related and possibly from a chest. Recovered alongside hand-hewn ax-cut wood, leather fragments, and a massive oak timber consistent with the oak-log platforms described by Daniel McGinnis during the original 1804 excavation.
