About This Tool

A heavy, curved iron object recovered by metal detection expert Gary Drayton while the team dug for more of the cobblestone pathway on Tom Nolan's property in the northern swamp, a few yards from the brick and slate vault found in 2024. Gary and Rick Lagina read it as part of a lifting or hauling device, possibly a shackle or a hook, with what appears to be an attachment point where a ring once sat.

Gary notes that if it is a lifting device, something heavy was lifted in this area. The object was bagged for cleaning and examination in the Oak Island lab. It has not been dated.
